Mums and dads are often under so much pressure to be the 'rock', the 'perfect parent', and to manage all the demands in their life. Don't strive for perfect parenting; strive for good enough parenting. Don't ignore your health and your needs, otherwise it will start to affect your ability to care for your children and to live well. With my clients, I often use the oxygen mask analogy. We are given instructions on planes when travelling with children that in the event of an emergency, we should put the oxygen mask on ourselves first before putting them on our children. The reason is because if we aren't well and conscious how can we take care of our children? The same applies in our daily life.
